Home Gym Products
Building your own home gym? Don’t waste your money on big expensive machines and equipment. The following products are everything you need to ease pain, keep active, and maintain your lifestyle as you get older from the comfort of your own home.
These are the items that should be included in every home gym to help you build the strength and confidence to live active, healthy, and happy lives.
Trigger Point Foam Roller
Functional Fitness Bands
Easily the most versatile tool for your home gym. These rubber functional fitness bands are great tools for stretching, adding resistance, and providing assistance to more difficult movements and should be part of your home gym. Most exercises can be performed with the red (20-35 lbs) and black band (30-50 lbs) and which is why I recomed starting with these two.
Perform Better Mini Bands
These versatile mini-bands provide resistance for many of the early exercises I use in my programming. I recomend The Perform Better Mini-Band Pack with four different resistances to give you options depending on the exercise your are performing.
TheraBand CLX Resistance Band
Another extremely useful band that I use primarily for upper body and shoulder strengthening. The CLX TherBand has less resistance than the rubber functional fitness bands which are better for the smaller muscles of the shoulder. The looped handles make this easier to grip than traditional TheraBand. The green and blue resistance is enough for most exercises.
TRX GO Suspension Trainer
The TRX is an amazing tool that not only provides a large variety of exercises, but can be used initially to add assistance to help you build confidence in certain movements that may be difficult or painful initially. The TRX Suspension Training system is the gold standard of suspension training and what I use in my clinic. For the home gym, the TRX Go Bundle is enough to get you started.
I strongly believe that EVERYONE should have access to kettlebells. These versatile weights are great for any level. In my clinic and home gym I use Prime Kettlebells from Fringe Sport. It’s powder coat finish makes it easy to grip. Wide handles fit most hands. And their FREE shipping makes it the best value on the market. Pick your size at the link below.
Not Required – But Still Good To Have
For those who more serious about their home gym – the following items aren’t 100% needed but will allow you to progress your exercise routine and continue to develop your strength.
Set Of Dumbbells
Dumbbells are a great addition to your home gym, allowing you to add resistance to many of the exercises we use to limit pain. I’m old school and like having sets of weights, but adjustable dumbbells are a great way to save on space. Actual weights will depend on your ability level, but I find this set with pairs of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 lb to be enough for the average adult.
The Squat Rack is a useful tool for anyone looking to incoporate barbell training into their home routine. The squat rack I use in my clinic is the PRx Profile PRO Squat Rack With Pull Up Bar. This folding squat rack allows you to easily transform any garage, home or small commercial space into a multi-functioning gym while sacrificing just 4″ of wall space when not in use. For any squat rack I recommend including a pull up bar. This makes an easy attachment for bands and TRX Suspension Trainer.
Wonder Bar Olympic Barbell
I truly believe that the barbell is one of the most important healthcare tools available to adults as they get older. Barbell training helps your improve movement patterns, build strength, and increase flexibility to treat joint pain. In our clinic we use the 20 kg (45 lb) Wonder Bar Olympic Barbell. Free Shipping makes this barbell the best value for your home gym.
Bumper Plate Pairs
If you’ve purchased a barbell you’re going to need some weights. These color bumper plate pairs are great to looks at very durable. For beginners I reomend pairs of 10, 25, and 45 plates. Like all fringe sport products, their free shipping makes these bumper plates the best value for your home gym.
